Still no response from Azerbaijan to Armenia’s offer on signing peace treaty

Armenia has reiterated readiness to start talks with Azerbaijan to determine the date and venue for signing the peace treaty.

However, Azerbaijan hasn’t yet responded, the Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan said on Monday.

“Regrettably, from past experience I can say that whenever we take a step forward, often complications, provocations and even two steps back are made by the opposite side. This is not a new conduct. On the other hand, look into the international reactions, 58 countries and over ten international organizations have already welcomed the completion of the negotiations over the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, with many having stressed Armenia’s important role in this process,” Hovhannisyan told reporters.

He said that Azerbaijan hasn’t responded to Armenia’s offer to launch talks on choosing a place and time for signing the treaty. “There’s still no response to this statement…We continue the agenda of peace, we continue to work with our partners in the international arena in this direction,” Hovhannisyan said.

The governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan announced on March 13 that the negotiations around the peace treaty have been successfully concluded. The Armenian government has expressed readiness to start discussions with Azerbaijan around the date and location of signing the agreement.
