Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on Friday had a telephone conversation with the U.K. Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs David Lammy.
According to the statement issued by the Armenian Foreign Ministry, the interlocutors discussed regional issues.
Regarding the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Minister Mirzoyan emphasized the efforts to finalize the agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations between the two countries, as well as Armenia’s proposal to sign the agreed text. Mirzoyan thanked David Lammy for the U.K.’s clear position on the need to conclude the agreement as soon as possible and establish peace in the region.
Addressing Azerbaijan’s false accusations of border shootings, Minister Mirzoyan referred to Armenia’s proposal to create a joint mechanism for investigating ceasefire violations and related information— a proposal to which Azerbaijan did not respond positively. The FM noted that this and other Armenian proposals, particularly regarding the unblocking of communications, could serve as a strong basis for building mutual trust and ensuring stability.
The interlocutors also exchanged views on cooperation in international forums. Minister Mirzoyan, in particular, presented the ongoing preparatory work for hosting the COP17 conference in Armenia, stressing the importance of close cooperation with the U.K. in this regard.
