Argentina welcomes conclusion of Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty talks

Argentina has welcomed the conclusion of the Armenia-Azerbaijan negotiations on the terms of the peace agreement.

In a statement released on X, the Foreign Ministry of Argentina said “Argentina welcomes the completion of the negotiations around the draft peace agreement between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.” It commended both sides for their efforts aimed at finding a peaceful solution to disputes.

The ministry expressed hope that “the process will contribute to the development and welfare of the two countries, ensuring stability and prosperity for the South Caucasus region.”

On March 13, Armenia and Azerbaijan announced that the negotiations around the peace treaty terms have been successfully concluded. Days later, the Azerbaijani government started a massive disinformation campaign falsely accusing Armenia of firing at its military positions across the border. The accusations have been numerously denied by the Armenian military. Furthermore, the Azerbaijani authorities refused to provide any evidence in support of their accusations. The report on border shootings was also denied by the EU monitoring mission in Armenia. Azerbaijan has also been making preconditions: demanding Armenian constitutional changes by falsely claiming that it contains territorial claims against Azerbaijan, as well as the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group.

On March 20, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reiterated readiness to sign the peace agreement with Azerbaijan.
