Swiss parliament adopts motion on Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians’ return

The upper house of the Swiss parliament, the Council of States, adopted on March 18 the motion calling for an international peace forum to be organized by the Federal Council of Switzerland to discuss the safe return of Armenians to Nagorno-Karabakh.

Motion 24.4259 titled Peace Forum for Nagorno Karabakh: Ensuring the Opportunity for Return of Armenians was adopted with 29 out of the 46 members voting in favor. It calls on the Swiss authorities to create a platform for dialogue between representatives of Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan.

“The aim is to facilitate an open dialogue between Azerbaijan and representatives of the Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians, conducted under international supervision or in the presence of internationally relevant actors, in order to negotiate the safe and collective return of the historically resident Armenian population,” reads the motion.

Back in 2024, the lower house of the Swiss parliament adopted the resolution with 96 votes in favor.
