The Iraqi foreign ministry has welcomed the conclusion of the negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan on the terms of the peace treaty.
The Iraqi foreign ministry said in a statement that the peace agreement will have historic significance.
“The Republic of Iraq welcomes the agreement around the historically significant peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” it said.
The ministry added that the agreement is a serious step in the direction of strengthening security and stability in South Caucasus, expressing hope that it would contribute to shaping a better future for the peoples of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The Iraqi foreign ministry lauded the diplomatic efforts that contributed to this achievement.
It further expressed hope that the agreement would open a new era of friendly ties and productive cooperation between Armenia and Azerbaijan, strengthening prospects for peaceful co-existence and sustainable development in the region.
The governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan announced on March 13 that the negotiations around the peace treaty terms have been successfully concluded. The Armenian government has expressed readiness to start discussions with Azerbaijan around the date and location of signing the agreement.
