Concluded text of peace treaty doesn’t envisage extraterritorial corridor, says Armenian FM

The concluded text of the draft peace treaty doesn’t contain any provision about an extraterritorial corridor, Armenian FM Ararat Mirzoyan has said.

“The agreed upon text of the agreement doesn’t contain any provision about the so-called corridor. In general, there is nothing about the mechanisms of unblocking in the text of the agreement. We have mutual readiness to cooperate in various areas, including transport, transit and economic matters,” Mirzoyan told lawmakers at the foreign affairs committee of the Armenian parliament during a hearing on 2024 activity report.

He reminded that Armenia has publicly made constructive proposals regarding unblocking of connections.

“And the offer is the following, first, to unblock railways, enable both countries to use each other’s railway networks. Just like the whole world, we also believe that we can somewhat simplify the border crossing process to ensure a smoother process of cargo. But just like before, and now, and tomorrow, it is an irreversible perception and condition for us that all infrastructures that would be unblocked would remain and function under the sovereignty of the countries where they are located,” the FM said.

He said that all Armenian infrastructures, including railways and roads, will remain and function under Armenian sovereignty. He said that there is no need for any third party supervising the infrastructures.

The governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan announced on March 13 that the negotiations around the peace treaty have been successfully concluded. The date and location of signing the agreement is yet to be determined.
