Iran welcomes conclusion of Armenia-Azerbaijan peace talks

Iran has welcomed the agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan on the peace treaty.
The Iranian foreign ministry, in a statement attributable to spokesperson Esmail Baqaei
“welcomed the news of the agreement between the Republics of Armenia and Azerbaijan on the terms of a peace agreement between the two countries, describing it as a necessary and important step towards achieving lasting peace in the South Caucasus region.”
The spokesperson further expressed hope that “with the commitment of both sides to resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomacy, we will soon witness the signing of a peace agreement between the two countries and lasting peace and stability in the region.”
The governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan announced on March 13 that the negotiations around the peace treaty have been successfully concluded. The date and location of signing the agreement is yet to be determined.
