Supreme Judicial Council chief meets with Iranian ambassador

Supreme Judicial Council President Artur Atabekyan has met with Iran’s Ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani.
Atabekyan attached importance to the bilateral efforts for strengthening the centuries-old friendly Armenian-Iranian relations and emphasized readiness to cooperate in the justice sector, the Supreme Judicial Council’s press service said in a statement.
The sides discussed issues pertaining to extradition, deportations and transfers of incarcerated individuals in the two countries.
They discussed the improvement of several legislative issues that would contribute to the maximally best protection of the rights of jailed foreign nationals in both countries.
Atabekyan presented the course of reforms in the direction of reducing the workload of particularly the Criminal and Administrative courts, which will also reduce the timeframes of the trials of foreign nationals.
Atabekyan and Sobhani discussed other topics of mutual interest and agreed to hold regular meetings.
