Executive Secretary of UN Convention on Biological Diversity visits Armenia ahead of COP17

Astrid Schomaker, Executive Secretary of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity visited Armenia March 3-7 to discuss with Armenian officials the upcoming meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) that will be held in Armenia in 2026.
During her visit, Astrid Schomaker met with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Environment Minister Hakob Simidyan, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a press release.
Meetings and visits were organized with PM Pashinyan’s chief advisor Hambardzum Matevosyan, who serves as the head of the COP17 organizational steering committee. Discussions with partners involved in organizing COP17 took place.
Astrid Schomaker also held a meeting with the diplomatic corps in Armenia, as well as members of the COP17 steering committee.
During the meetings, the importance of COP17, the needs, the framework of possible cooperation with international partners and future steps were discussed.
