Armenian Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan warned on Tuesday that Azerbaijan has been attempting to influence the Armenian-Turkish normalization process by way of hijacking the process.
Speaking to reporters, Simonyan reiterated that Armenia’s normalization processes with Turkiye and Azerbaijan are separate matters and said that there is an opportunity for Ankara not to link the two.
“We have been working with Turkiye and will continue to do so. I regret that Azerbaijan has taken hostage the Armenia-Turkiye relations, the Armenian-Turkish border issue, the Armenian-Turkish normalization, and is attempting to have influence. This is very bad, and I think the respective Turkish officials also understand this,” the Speaker said.
Simonyan reiterated that Armenia has showed through its stance and statements that it is ready for peace and will continue to take steps in that direction.
“We hope that upon seeing these steps Turkiye will likewise start to express its stance more clearly,” Simonyan said.
