Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan said Tuesday that the text of the new Constitution must be ready until the 2026 general election.
Galyan made the remarks at the 4th Meeting of EU-Armenia Parliamentary Partnership Committee in Yerevan.
She spoke about the steps taken to strengthen democracy and the rule of law, highlighting constitutional reforms.
“The [reforms] are in ongoing phase. The respective council is working, the Constitution’s concept has been formed. We are now working on the new text of the Constitution, which, according to the commitment we’ve assumed, must be ready until the 2026 elections,” she said.
The Constitution’s emphasis will be on human rights, socio-economic rights, and it will contain several provisions regarding the system of administration, the role and place of various public bodies.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan recently addressed the nation and said that there is a need to hold a referendum around a new Constitution.
