Armenian Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan thanked Members of the European Parliament during the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Partnership Committee session in Yerevan for having condemned Azerbaijan for its war against Nagorno-Karabakh and failure to release Armenian prisoners.

In his remarks Simonyan expressed hope for closer cooperation with the European Parliament.

“I’d like to thank those Members of the European Parliament who’ve been following the regional developments these years, the challenges facing Armenia, who heard our calls and in their speeches and adopted reports condemned the destructive war unleashed by Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh, the displacement of more than a hundred thousand Armenians, the occupation of Armenia’s sovereign territory, gross violations of human rights, the fact that prisoners are still held in Azerbaijan and the vandalism perpetrated against Armenian cultural and religious heritage. Unfortunately, all these reactions were insufficient and international humanitarian law was subdued in Nagorno-Karabakh,” Simonyan said.
