Cyprus President plans visit to Yerevan

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Cyprus (residing in Athens) Tigran Mkrtchyan, on concluding his diplomatic mission in the Republic of Cyprus, met with the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.

According to the Embassy of Armenia in Greece, the parties highly appreciated the launch of the long-anticipated process of opening bilateral embassies in the fraternal states.

The Ambassador thanked the President of Cyprus for the active dialogue with Cyprus in the bilateral and trilateral Armenia-Cyprus-Greece format, as well as for Cyprus' unconditional support on issues of fundamental importance for Armenia.

The Ambassador presented details on the Armenian government's decision to proceed with the civil initiative to submit an application for EU membership, which was approved in the first reading by the National Assembly of Armenia.

The President of Cyprus highly appreciated Armenia's democratic progress, reforms, and consistency in building a country based on the European model. He reaffirmed Cyprus' support for the ongoing processes. In this context, he noted that Cyprus will hold the Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2026.

Cooperation on both bilateral and multilateral platforms was discussed at the meeting. The interlocutors exchanged views on regional issues, touching upon the steps being taken towards signing a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The President of Cyprus recalled his visit to Armenia in 2015 as Foreign Minister to participate in events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and noted that he plans to visit Yerevan soon to promote bilateral relations.
