EU bill doesn’t imply severing ties with anyone, says MP

The EU bill doesn’t imply abandoning the cooperation with any country, a ruling party lawmaker has said.

“We don’t seek to get rid of anyone through this bill,” MP Sona Ghazaryan from the Civil Contract faction said in parliament during the debates of the bill calling for the launch of EU accession process. “We continue regional activities and we continue to normalize our relations with Turkiye, we try to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, we normalize and create new agenda in the Armenian-Russian relations. And this bill doesn’t take us anywhere or doesn’t cut us off from anyone.”

The agenda of the plenary session of the Armenian parliament includes the bill on EU accession.

The bill was initiated by several civic organizations through a petition which garnered enough votes to be considered as a bill. It calls on the Armenian authorities to launch the process of EU integration.

The bill was previously endorsed by the Cabinet.
