Armenian Human Rights Defender, Swiss Ambassador highlight urgency of POWs' return

Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan on Friday met with Swiss Ambassador to Armenia Lukas Rosenkranz.

According to the Human Rights Defender’s office, Ms. Manasyan briefed the ambassador on the institution’s powers and areas of focus, including the rights of women, children, national minorities and persons with disabilities, as well as human rights in the armed forces and efforts to combat hate speech and intolerance.

She also addressed challenges in promoting equality and combating discrimination, highlighting concerns over hate speech and intolerance in the country and emphasizing the importance of ongoing efforts to reduce such incidents.

Ms. Manasyan presented issues related to the protection of the rights of forcibly displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh, discussing current challenges and ongoing efforts to address them. She stressed the importance of clarifying the fate of missing persons, protecting the rights of those in captivity, and ensuring their return, highlighting the role of human rights institutions in these efforts.

Ambassador Lukas Rosenkranz  expressed gratitude for the reception and emphasized the role of the institution in protecting human rights.
