IWF president lauds Armenian weightlifting ahead of 2027 world championships in Yerevan

International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) President Mohamed Jaloud has praised Armenia’s achievements in the sports. 

Jaloud attended a session of the Armenian Weightlifting Federation where Arayik Harutyunyan was elected as the new president.

“Weightlifting has many years of tradition in Armenia. Armenia has always won Olympic medals ever since the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. And this shows the significant place of weightlifting in Armenia.  We are proud that weightlifting is in leading positions in Armenia,” Jaloud said.

“Arayik Harutyunyan has done a lot for Armenian weightlifting in recent years, especially within the framework of the European championships in Yerevan. And now, Armenia has been entrusted with hosting the 2027 world championships, which is also a qualifier for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. We are sure that it will be a wonderfully organized championship,” the IWF president said.
