Iran supports Armenia's Crossroads of Peace project based on its principles – PM Pashinyan receives Iranian Security Council Secretary

YEREVAN, JANUARY 9, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan received a delegation led by the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Ali Akbar Ahmadian. 

According to the Prime Minister's office, Pashinyan described the visit as symbolic, as Mr. Ahmadian is the first high-ranking foreign official to visit Armenia in 2025. The Prime Minister added that the visit highlights the importance and depth of Armenia-Iran relations.

Pashinyan noted that there is one unshakable guarantee in the relations between the two countries: Armenia and Iran are bound by natural interests. He emphasized the Armenian government's commitment to consistently developing and expanding bilateral cooperation in all directions.

The Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council expressed gratitude for the reception and conveyed the warm greetings of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, to Prime Minister Pashinyan.

He further highlighted that the rich civilizational history shared by Armenia and Iran, along with the warm ties between the peoples of two countries, inspires confidence in the continued strengthening and deepening of mutually beneficial cooperation.

The interlocutors discussed issues related to the dynamic development of bilateral relations and expressed confidence in the potential for new opportunities for cooperation in areas such as technology, industry, energy, agriculture, infrastructure, road construction, and more.

Particular emphasis was placed on collaboration with the Iranian side in the construction of the North-South highway. The parties expressed confidence that the highway's construction would provide a new impetus for increasing bilateral trade turnover and cargo transportation volumes.

In the context of unblocking regional transport routes, the Armenian Government's Crossroads of Peace project was discussed. Ali Akbar Ahmadian noted that Iran supports the implementation of the project based on the principles outlined in it.
