YEREVAN, JANUARY 7, ARMENPRESS. U.S. President-elect Donald Trump continued his trolling campaign against Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who announced Monday he would resign, suggesting the U.S. and Canada should merge, saying in a social media post it would no longer need U.S. help to “stay afloat,” Forbes reported.

Trump referred to Canada in the post as “the 51st State”—an ongoing joke he began making last fall, along with referring to the prime minister as “Governor Justin Trudeau”—and said Trudeau resigned because he knew the U.S. “can no longer suffer the massive Trade Deficits and Subsidies that Canada needs to stay afloat.”

“If Canada merged with the U.S., there would no Tariffs, taxes would go way down, and they would be TOTALLY SECURE from the threat of the Russian and Chinese Ships that are constantly surrounding them,” Trump posted to his Truth Social site. “Together, what a great Nation it would be!!!”

After Trudeau’s announcement Monday, Trump touted the idea that many Canadians would “LOVE” the idea of being the “51st State” of the U.S.

He said the merger would be beneficial for the U.S., because it would “no longer suffer” from “massive Trade Deficits” and subsidies that it provides to Canada.

“Justin Trudeau knew this, and resigned,” Trump said.
