YEREVAN, DECEMBER 18, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and his wife, Anna Hakobyan, attended the event dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the foundation and activities of Shirak State University in Gyumri. The event took place at the Vardan Achemyan State Drama Theater in Gyumri.

"I congratulate everyone on the 90th anniversary of Shirak State University. This is another expression of appreciation for the entire university staff, from the very first day of its foundation, to all the lecturers, students, management, and everyone who was somehow connected with the foundation and further activities of the university. We highly appreciate the university's work," said Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in his speech, emphasizing the importance of education and learning.

Referring to the establishment of the university, the Prime Minister noted that the establishment of the university at that time was an economic necessity. "If the university system is not connected to the economy, it goes beyond a certain logic. The standards by which the university operated in 1934 cannot operate in 2024. When we compare ourselves to our past or our other universities, we always end up in a good position, but Shirak State University should be compared to Leuven, Cambridge, and Oxford.

The goal of our educational system should be one: for its graduates to live well, earn as much as possible, and ensure the well-being of themselves and their families. We must explore  the potential of our students on a global scale and position our university system on the world’s academic map," the Prime Minister added.
