Competition becomes more intense, says newly-crowned world champion

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 16, ARMENPRESS.  According to Varazdat Lalayan, a member of the Armenian weightlifting team and world champion, the competition at the World Championship is becoming more intense.

"The competition is getting more intense, and the value of gold is even greater now. We must put in more effort and energy to continue bringing gold to Armenia," said Lalayan at a briefing with journalists.

In the snatch, Lalayan made three successful attempts, lifting 206 kg, 211 kg, and 215 kg, earning a minor gold medal in the event. In the clean and jerk, he lifted 245 kg and 252 kg, placing third in the category. With a combined total of 467 kg, Varazdat Lalayan became the 2024 World Champion.
