YEREVAN, DECEMBER 16, ARMENPRESS. The past five to six years in particular have been productive in terms of Armenia’s membership to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), a senior MP has said.

Vagharshak Hakobyan, an MP and Chairman of the Regional and Eurasian Integration Committee of the Armenian Parliament, summed up the results of the first decade of Armenia’s membership to the EEU during a December 16 session of his committee.

“Armenia acted highly effectively in numerous episodes especially during the past five to six years,” Hakobyan said. “We were able to secure the economic growth that has been evaluated highly, among others, by our international partners, despite the numerous global challenges. It is, among others, thanks to its membership to the Eurasian Economic Union that Armenia has been able to secure the indicators which we have.”

Joining the EEU also contributed to ensuring high quality of information technologies and migrant inflow, which brought a new situation both qualitatively and quantitatively, he said.

MP Hakobyan also underscored Armenia’s role as a highly important link between the EEU and the rest of the world.

He highlighted the recent EEU-Iran agreement, which creates new opportunities for the entire EEU market.

“Armenia’s role is especially important because we are the only EEU member that has a land border with Iran,” Hakobyan said.
