PM Pashinyan chairs the session of the National Commission on Disability Issues

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 2, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Monday chaired the session of the National Commission on disability issues.

Before the discussion of the agenda, Pashinyan highlighted that the session was taking place on the eve of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the PM's office said in a press release.

The Prime Minister emphasized that it is an important occasion to address the agenda of issues concerning persons with disabilities, despite those being priority issues for the Government.He noted that there are many factors preventing the desired progress.

"One of the reasons is that the infrastructures built in Armenia over decades were not designed taking into account the needs of persons with disabilities" Pashinyan said, acknowledging that achieving the desired progress will inevitably take time.

According to the source, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of fully involving the potential of people with disabilities in the country's economic development.

Summing up his speech, Nikol Pashinyan stated that the national commission is the platform that should ensure comprehensive issue formulation and emphasized that consistency and continuity are the most reliable and effective tools for solving problems.

The achievements, challenges, and sectoral initiatives in implementing the rights of persons with disabilities in areas such as social protection, healthcare, education, high-tech industry, and financial and banking services during 2023-2024 were also presented.

According to the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, a discussion was held on issues related to ensuring accessible conditions for the social inclusion of persons with disabilities and creating equal opportunities. Participants in the session presented their observations and suggestions on the topics.

Emphasizing the need to address small problems first and develop a feasible plan, the Prime Minister instructed the heads of responsible departments to inventory the existing issues in the sector and prioritize those that can be realistically solved in the short term.
