U.S. Senators express support to Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians’ right to return at COP29 press conference

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 18, ARMENPRESS. U.S. Senators Edward J. Markey and Sheldon Whitehouse have expressed support to Armenia and the right to return of Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians during a press conference within the framework of COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Senator Markey called for Azerbaijan's release of political prisoners and asserted the right of return of Nagorno Karabakh's Armenians who were forcibly displaced in 2023. 

“We believe that the political prisoners should be released. We believe there should be a right to return of the Armenians to Nagorno-Karabakh,” Markey said.

Senator Whitehouse expressed support to Armenia.

“Senator Markey and I support Armenia, both of us. We are very regretful that the dislocation of so many Armenians has taken place. To put it mildly, I am far from convinced that Armenians are to blame for that. And I don’t want to dwell in the home of my hosts on human rights issues, but if that were to be the topic, I would not be very complimentary,” Senator Whitehouse said.
