Uruguayan politicians call on Azerbaijan to immediately release all Armenian POWs

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 13, ARMENPRESS. Uruguayan politicians have called on Azerbaijan to release all Armenian POWs and captives. 

President of the Chamber of Representatives of Uruguay Ana Olivera, former presidents of Uruguay Julio María Sanguinetti and Luis Alberto Lacalle Herrera, 45 deputies and 4 senators have released a statement calling for the release, the Armenian Embassy in Uruguay has said.

“We welcome the progress in the Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization and attach importance to respect for the two countries’ territorial integrity in line with internationally recognized borders, as well as resolution of humanitarian issues. In this context, we call on Azerbaijan, the host of the annual reputed UN Climate Change conference, COP-29, to urgently and unconditionally release all Armenian prisoners of war and captives, thus strengthening trust between the two sides at this historic moment of reconciliation,” reads the statement. The politicians also underscored the inadmissibility of the use of force and the importance of refraining from belligerent rhetoric and hate speech to not obstruct the establishment of sustainable peace in the region.
