AGBU supports special day of prayer for Armenian captives held in Azerbaijan

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 9, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) has joined the special prayer day led by Catholicos Karekin II for the Armenian POWs still held in Azerbaijan.

“This Sunday, November 10, 2024—at the request of His Holiness Karekin II, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians—the Armenian faithful around the world will join a special prayer service for the Armenian POWs still held captive in Azerbaijan since the Artsakh War of 2020 and the Artsakh leaders who were arrested and detained over one year ago,” the AGBU said in a statement.  “The Special Day of Prayer will take place on the eve of the United Nations Climate Change Summit Conference, more commonly known as COP 29, hosted this year by Azerbaijan in Baku. AGBU joins international human rights organizations, government leaders and environmental advocates across the globe that have voiced their concern about the selection of Azerbaijan. Specifically, we and Armenians everywhere have raised serious questions about convening world leaders in a state currently under adjudication for violations of UN conventions on war, prisoners of war, ethnic cleansing, and other war crimes against innocent civilians. AGBU urges its members and supporters across its global network to unite in prayer and raise awareness in honor of the 23 Armenians officially confirmed by Azerbaijan to be in its custody, as well as those unaccounted for. Contact your local Armenian Church Diocese or parish for details.”
