Release of Armenian prisoners in Azerbaijan would greatly aid Yerevan-Baku reconciliation

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 5, ARMENPRESS. The release of Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan would greatly aid reconciliation between Yerevan and Baku, Armenian Ambassador to Russia Gurgen Arsenyan told journalists.

"Such a step would make a significant contribution to reconciliation," Arsenyan said, adding that further questions regarding the release of detainees should be directed to the Azerbaijani side.

The Ambassador emphasized that if Yerevan and Baku are to sign a peace treaty and announce to the world that the two states and nations will live in peace and cooperation, they should begin with steps that will be appreciated.

Azerbaijan has officially confirmed the presence of 23 Armenian prisoners and other detainees, including representatives of the former military and political leadership of Nagorno-Karabakh.
