Minister of Labor and Social Affairs addresses disability rights and child protection issues with Qatari counterpart

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 29, ARMENPRESS. At the invitation of the Qatari Minister of Social Development and Family, Mariam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Narek Mkrtchyan, traveled to Doha for a working visit to participate in the "Family and Contemporary Megatrends" conference.

The minister is scheduled to meet with heads of several international departments and organizations. A memorandum on the development of sectoral cooperation will soon be submitted for signing by the State of Qatar.

According to the Armenian Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Minister Mkrtchyan met with Mariam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad on October 29.

The parties discussed several issues of mutual interest, particularly the provision of equal opportunities, the rights of persons with disabilities, and the protection of children's rights. Armen Sargsyan, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Qatar, also participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed options for cooperation in the area of the foster care system. Minister Mkrtchyan presented Armenia's policy aimed at the development of this system and noted that its establishment remains one of the sector's priorities.

The parties also considered the possibility of organizing forums and events of mutual interest in Armenia and Qatar related to the discussed topics.

The importance of ensuring the continuity of efforts to strengthen the institution of the family was also emphasized. Minister Mkrtchyan presented Armenia's newly adopted demographic strategy, as outlined by the government.
