Speaker of Parliament doesn’t see reasons for Azerbaijan to abandon delimitation agreement

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 22, ARMENPRESS. The Armenia-Azerbaijan regulation on the joint activity of the border delimitation commissions is an agreed upon document and Armenia has not faced any obstacle with Azerbaijan in this issue, Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan has said.

He said that during the latest discussions the Azeri side has assured that the regulation is acceptable for them.

Asked by reporters whether there are fears that Azerbaijan would refuse to ratify it, Simonyan said, “There are always fears, but I say that the latest work, the documented agreements, don’t give me the reason to think that they can somehow abandon the agreement.”

The Armenian parliament is debating the ratification of the Armenia-Azerbaijan regulation on the joint activity of the border delimitation commissions.

Both opposition factions, the Hayastan and Pativ Unem, have announced that they won’t participate in the debates and the vote. The opposition MPs argued that Azerbaijan could refuse to ratify it, thus Armenia’s ratification is contentious. This argument has been rejected as unfounded by the ruling Civil Contract MPs and government officials.
