YEREVAN, OCTOBER 12, ARMENPRESS. Türkiye has a misperception that the Armenian Diaspora’s stance has been an obstruction on the path of normalization of Armenia-Türkiye relations, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ruben Rubinyan has said.
“There is a misperception in Türkiye that the Armenian Diaspora’s stance has been or remains an obstruction on the path of the Armenia-Türkiye normalization,” Rubinyan, the Armenian special representative for normalization with Türkiye, said at a panel discussion during the Crossroads of Peace, Combining Security and Democracy conference. “It’s been numerously proven that it is not the case. It wasn’t that way in the early 2010s, when the so-called football diplomacy was in the center, when the protocols were signed. At that time the Armenian government was ready to immediately normalize relations with Türkiye without preconditions,” Rubinyan said.
Rubinyan said there is one obstruction in the Armenia-Türkiye normalization and that is the lack of political decision in Türkiye itself.
He said it is highly important for the normalization process to remain a process between the two countries alone.
Rubinyan reiterated that from its side Armenia is ready to immediately open the border.
