YEREVAN, OCTOBER 12, ARMENPRESS. The EU civilian monitoring mission in Armenia has brought transparency to the region, Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan has said.

Speaking at the Crossroads of Peace, Combining Security and Democracy conference, Grigoryan once again highly appreciated the EU mission’s work.

“I’d like to mention something that is important also in context of the Armenia-EU relations. The purpose of the mission is not about changing the Armenians’ perception of the EU, but the EU mission has done that,” Grigoryan said, highly appreciating the added value.

“This mission is also bringing transparency to the region, which is also highly important. Before 5 April of this year [Armenia-EU-US high level meeting], Azerbaijan and many media outlets were accusing us of attempts to escalate the situation, bring new forces to the border. The EU mission played an important role and by ensuring transparency it showed what was happening in the region and refuted those false accusations,” Grigoryan said.
