After ‘unprecedented’ e-car imports, Armenia expands duty-free limit

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 10, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian government on Thursday added 600 more quotas to the annual limit of duty-free imports of electric vehicles after the original limit of 7,400 was exceeded amid unprecedented activity.

“Our citizens were unprecedentedly active this year,” Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan said at the Cabinet meeting. “As of October 1, the 7,400 car limit was surpassed and we need to distribute 600 more.”

He said that 71% of the e-cars are imported by individuals, whereas only 28,6% are imported by companies. “The majority of the cars that are now waiting to clear customs with zero percent belong to natural persons [individuals] and we propose to add 600 quotas for our citizens to make use of that opportunity,” Papoyan said.
