Prime Minister Pashinyan sees historic chance to resolve South Caucasus conflict

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 16, ARMENPRESS. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan believes there is a historic opportunity to resolve the conflict in the South Caucasus and establish lasting peace. He expressed this conviction during joint statements following his meeting with his Georgian counterpart in Georgia.

"I truly believe we have a historic opportunity to end the conflict in the South Caucasus and bring lasting peace to our region. I am also convinced that the beneficiaries of this peace will not only be Armenia and Azerbaijan, but also Georgia, Turkey, and Iran," Pashinyan said.

He clarified that despite all challenges, the Armenian government will continue its efforts to make peace in the region possible. The Prime Minister also praised the Georgian government's role in promoting regional and international stability through its policies.

Pashinyan added that Armenia’s vision is best represented by the "Crossroads of Peace" project, developed by the Armenian government.

During the  meeting with the Prime Minister of Georgia, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan presented the latest developments in the Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization process. The PM informed that some progress had been made during negotiations with Azerbaijan within the framework of the delimitation and demarcation process.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Pashinyan noted that after nearly two years of negotiations, Armenia and Azerbaijan have agreed on approximately 80 percent of the text of the Treaty on the "Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations." He stated that Armenia has proposed signing the agreed-upon provisions of the draft with Azerbaijan in the near future, establishing diplomatic relations, and continuing discussions to resolve all remaining issues of mutual importance.

"The unblocking and full operation of all economic infrastructures and communication routes is of key importance for the stability and economic development of the region, which we consider one of the priorities of our government," stated PM Pashinyan.
