Armenia ready to swiftly sign peace treaty with Azerbaijan, reiterates PM Pashinyan

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 10, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has reiterated that Armenia is ready to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan under the terms that have been agreed upon so far.

“You’ve lately heard that eighty percent of the peace treaty is agreed upon, such statements have been made from various platforms, and I’d like to state what this means in practice,” Pashinyan said at the Yerevan Dialogue forum. "Thirteen articles and the preamble of the draft peace treaty are fully agreed upon at this moment, and another three articles that are mostly composed of two sentences are partly agreed upon. More substantially speaking, one of the sentences of that articles is agreed upon, the other is not. The Republic of Armenia, given that the agreed upon articles include all or the key fundamental and internationally clear provisions of establishing relations, is offering to take what has been agreed upon at this moment and sign it, and have a fundamental document, and then continue discussions around the other issues, especially since one of the agreed upon articles envisages a mechanism that would enable the two parties, Armenia and Azerbaijan, to continue discussions through a joint mechanism.”

One of the agreed upon articles is about the establishment of diplomatic relations. “Therefore, we can make such solutions, we’ve made this offer publicly and officially, and I want to reiterate our readiness, my readiness, to swiftly sign the agreed upon text of the agreement on peace and establishment of relations,” Pashinyan added.
