Prime Minister Pashinyan receives European Commission Vice-President

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 9, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received a delegation led by Margaritis Schinas, Vice President of the European Commission and European Commissioner for Promoting the European Way of Life.

According to the Information and Public Relations Department of the Armenian Prime Minister's Office, Pashinyan welcomed Mr. Schinas' visit to Armenia, noting that it would contribute to discussions on the Armenia-EU cooperation agenda and further development of bilateral relations. The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of this visit for the relationship between the European Union and the Republic of Armenia.

"I am pleased that there are noticeable developments in our relations: negotiations on visa liberalization are beginning, and a decision has been made to support the Republic of Armenia through the European Peace Facility, which we greatly appreciate," said Pashinyan.

During the meeting, the Armenian Prime Minister noted that Armenia is actively expanding its agenda with the European Union. He added that, particularly following his speech in the European Parliament last year, discussions are taking place in Armenia regarding the possibility of the country becoming a member of the European Union.

"This is not a simple issue, but it has become part of the Armenian political agenda, so it is necessary to address this topic in detail. In this regard, it will be important to consider the observations and advice of our EU partners," said the Prime Minister.

Margaritis Schinas highlighted the European Union's interest in developing relations with Armenia and contributing to the promotion of reforms in the country. The Vice President of the European Commission also expressed hope for effective cooperation with the Armenian government in the dialogue on visa liberalization.

The parties also discussed issues related to implementing the agreements reached at the high-level meeting between the Armenian Prime Minister, the President of the European Commission, and the U.S. Secretary of State in Brussels on April 5, 2024.
