Speaker of Parliament doesn’t rule out Armenian withdrawal from CSTO

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 9, ARMENPRESS. Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan hasn’t ruled out the possibility of Armenia someday withdrawing from the CSTO.

“No one rules it out. And its reasons are well known. The CSTO is doing everything for that,” Simonyan told reporters when asked to comment on opinions that Armenia could eventually quit the bloc. 

Asked on latest comments from Moscow that Armenia’s refusal to cooperate with the CSTO contradicts its own interests, the Speaker said, “I think it is very wrong to speak with Armenia with threats. I couldn’t imagine that the Russian embassy in Armenia, or their analysts, or the foreign ministry are so detached from Armenian reality. Being a CSTO member, they witnessed an attack on Armenia by another country and made an impression as if nothing happened.”
