Direct flights between Urumqi and Yerevan to boost cooperation between China and Armenia - Minister Sanosyan

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 3, ARMENPRESS.Armenia actively participates in China's Belt and Road Initiative, which is expected to open up new horizons in the future, Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan said during the welcoming ceremony for the first flight on the Urumqi-Yerevan-Urumqi route at Zvartnots Airport.

"The cooperation between the regions and cities of Armenia and the provinces and cities of China is also expanding," Sanosyan said and added that the past decade has been significant for the development of Armenian-Chinese relations.

"The progress goes beyond diplomatic speeches and protocols and represents a partnership marked by tangible steps. China is the third-largest country in terms of representation in Armenia, following Russia and the USA,” said the minister, adding that its presence spans several sectors, including trade, healthcare, entertainment, education.

Sanosyan expressed satisfaction with the liberalization of visas between the two countries, which has created significant opportunities for tourism, investment projects, and further cooperation.

During a briefing with journalists, Sanosyan added that a truly historic flight has taken place, as it marks the establishment of direct air communication between China and Armenia for the first time.

“This is the result of a consistent policy. In the near future, we anticipate launching similar new flights to major cities and countries around the world. In particular, we are focusing on establishing direct flights to the United States and India,” said the minister.
