YEREVAN, AUGUST 21, ARMENPRESS.The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Maria Zakharova, noted during a press briefing held Wednesday that the topic of reconciliation between Baku and Yerevan was discussed during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Baku.

Zakharova emphasized that all efforts made by the Russian Federation in this direction align with the spirit of special alliance relations with both Baku and Yerevan, which are based on common historical and cultural values.

She highlighted that the signing of a peace treaty is crucial for establishing peace and stability in the region.

“Our country has stated at all levels its interest in achieving this as soon as possible. This was confirmed by the Russian President himself, who expressed his intention to contact Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan after his visit to Baku  to continue the dialogue on conflict settlement,” said Zakharova, noting that Russia is ready to support the parties within the framework of the tripartite agreement.

Addressing Armenia's participation in CSTO events, Zakharova noted that the CSTO's doors are always open and that "there is no other guarantor of security for Armenia apart from this structure."

The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation also touched upon recent information about a possible increase in tension on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, noting that Russia regularly calls on both sides to show restraint and resolve all controversial issues exclusively through peaceful and diplomatic methods.
