Armenian Foreign Minister participates in Cyprus Ambassadorial annual conference

YEREVAN, JULY 29, ARMENPRESS. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan’s visit to Cyprus began with his participation in the annual conference of Cypriot ambassadors on July 29.

Around 50 ambassadors, as well as the leadership of the Cypriot foreign ministry, were in attendance, the foreign ministry said in a press release.

FM Mirzoyan delivered a speech and then answered questions from the participants.

Mirzoyan’s participation marked the first time that an Armenian FM was participating in the annual conference.

He thanked his Cypriot counterpart Constantinos Kombos for the invitation. “We enjoy excellent relations with Cyprus and we can undoubtedly state that our cooperation in various areas has already reached the level of strategic partnership,” Mirzoyan said at the event. "The dynamics of cooperation and deep understanding of each other’s positions is unique. We agreed with my colleague minister Kombos to further promote cooperation, and Armenia plans to establish a permanent diplomatic representation in Cyprus. I believe this would give new opportunities to continue to combine efforts and expand circles of cooperation.”

FM Mirzoyan then presented the Armenian foreign policy priorities, the ongoing steps in the direction of implementing them, the democratic reforms and cooperation with international partners. Mirzoyan also pointed out the existing challenges, including regional ones. The normalization processes with neighboring countries were also discussed, including the efforts in the direction of finalizing a peace treaty with Azerbaijan and the importance of signing it. The opportunities arising from the implementation of the Armenian government’s Crossroads of Peace project were also presented.

The ambitious Armenia-EU partnership agenda, achievements recorded in this framework, future steps and prospects were comprehensively touched upon.

Ideas were exchanged around Armenia-Cyprus partnership in multilateral platforms.
