Spanish lawmaker hails visa liberalization talks as ‘significant step’ in strengthening Armenia-EU ties

YEREVAN, JULY 29, ARMENPRESS. The European Commission's move to start a dialogue on visa liberalization with Armenia is a significant step forward in strengthening Armenia-EU relations, Spanish lawmaker Jon Inarritu has said.

The European Commission announced the start of visa liberalization dialogue with Armenia on July 22. 

“The European Commission's move to start a dialogue on visa liberalization with Armenia is a significant step forward in strengthening EU-Armenia relations, fostering closer ties, and greater cooperation. It holds immense potential for economic, educational, cultural, and political benefits, marking an important milestone in Armenia's journey towards deeper integration with Europe,” Inarritu, representing the Gipuzkoa constituency in the Congress of Deputies of Spain, told Armenpress in written comments. 

He added that visa liberalization would “facilitate easier and more frequent travel for Armenian citizens to EU countries.”

“Easier travel to the EU would likely boost tourism and business travel, fostering economic growth. Likewise, Armenian entrepreneurs and businesses would gain improved access to European markets, promoting trade and investment opportunities. Additionally, it would enable more Armenian students and academics to study and collaborate with their European counterparts, enriching both Armenia and the EU through the exchange of knowledge and culture, fostering mutual understanding and collaboration. Strengthening ties through increased mobility would deepen Armenia's integration into the European community. It would demonstrate the EU's commitment to supporting Armenia's democratic development and its alignment with European values and standards,” the Spanish legislator said.
