Southgate resigns after England's Euro 2024 loss

YEREVAN, JULY 16, ARMENPRESS. England manager Gareth Southgate has resigned, as mentioned in the BBC statement.

It is noted he resigned after losing the finals of the last two European Championships.

The Three Lions lost 2-1 in Berlin on Sunday, their second consecutive Euros final defeat, having been beaten on penalties by Italy at Wembley in 2021 [the European Championship was supposed to take place in the summer of 2020, but due to the coronavirus it was postponed and took place a year later].

“As a proud Englishman, it has been the honour of my life to play for England and to manage England. It has meant everything to me, and I have given it my all. But it’s time for change, and for a new chapter,” said Southgate.

The 53-year-old managed his country for 102 games in eight years in charge.
