UNESCO Director-General, newly appointed Armenian Permanent Representative discuss expanding cooperation prospects

YEREVAN, JULY 10, ARMENPRESS. Aram Hakobyan, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to UNESCO on Wednesday presented his credentials to Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). 

According to the readout issued by the Foreign Ministry of Armenia, during the private conversation following the ceremony, the interlocutors discussed the prospects of expanding cooperation between UNESCO and Armenia, as well as a number of issues related to the organization's priorities.

The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia reaffirmed Armenia's readiness to continuously make efforts towards implementing the commitments undertaken within the framework of its membership on the UNESCO Executive Board and to implement the organization's program priorities.

According to the source, referring to the initiatives implemented by UNESCO in the direction of the protection of cultural heritage, the Permanent Representative of Armenia drew the attention of the Director-General to the threats to the historical and cultural heritage of Nagorno-Karabakh and emphasized the importance of active steps expected from UNESCO in addressing them.
