USAID provides $5 million to expand Amazon Web Service and Armenian Government collaboration

YEREVAN, JULY 10, ARMENPRESS. The USAID Administrator Samantha Power has announced new funding of $5 million to promote and advance the cooperation between Amazon Web Services and the Government of Armenia.

Samantha Power stated this during a joint statement with Mkhitar Hayrapetyan.

In her speech, Samantha Power noted that at the meeting with the Minister of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, issues related to technologies that can further increase Armenia's sustainability were discussed.

“We see the Armenian government engaging in digitalization, technology, and cybersecurity, wanting to turn their vision into reality,” Power said, thanking Amazon for helping Armenia realize that vision. 

She noted that the existing collaboration between Armenia and Amazon Web Service is aimed at strengthening Armenia’s digital systems, digitizing public services, and ensuring the country’s resilience to cyberattacks.

According to Samantha Power, the digitalization of public services will first and foremost require secure and reliable digital systems that can withstand cyberattacks and respect people’s privacy and personal data.

“I am thrilled to announce today that $5 million in new funding will be provided to advance the partnership between Amazon Web Services and the Government of Armenia to facilitate and advance digital transformation, infrastructure, and cloud services.

The Armenian government will promote expert development, provide innovative technologies for its citizens, while protecting their personal data," Power said, adding that Amazon Web Service will help Armenia rapidly develop and digitize its systems. It will provide important training services in cloud computing, cybersecurity, and will help Armenia strengthen its sovereignty and protect itself from those who would harm.

According to Samantha Power, the cooperation between Amazon and Armenia will help provide reliable information to the citizens of Armenia, and will also create a basis for the government to put accurate information at the service of its own citizens.

“This initiative of the international business community can increase interest in Armenia. Most likely, it will also create new jobs, help families start earning more money,” Power said, adding that all this is being done in the right place and at the right time to help Armenia build an effective and long-lasting democracy that will serve the Armenian people.
