YEREVAN, JUNE 21, ARMENPRESS. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Yerevan did not send official requests to withdraw from the CSTO, therefore this issue and the possible consequences of the republic's withdrawal were not discussed at the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of CSTO, according to Russian media, quoting the statement of the Russian Foreign Minister.
“No, the procedure for Armenia’s withdrawal from the CSTO was not discussed because no corresponding request was received,” Lavrov said at a briefing after the CSTO Ministerial Council meeting, answering the question whether the procedure for Armenia’s withdrawal from the organization was discussed.
Lavrov noted that guessing about the presence or absence of any applications or documents from Armenia is not part of diplomatic traditions.
“As I already said, yes, today the Armenian minister was not present at the meeting, but there was no document from Armenia, any official step that would make it necessary to discuss the consequences of what did not happen,” said Lavrov.
On June 21, a meeting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan did not participate in the meeting. Armenia has frozen its participation in the activities of the CSTO. Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan did not rule out that Armenia will decide to withdraw from the CSTO.
