5 dead, over 20 injured as passenger train collides with goods train in India

YEREVAN, JUNE 17, ARMENPRESS. At least 5 people died, over 20 were injured after a passenger train collided with a goods train on Monday near New Jalpaiguri in India.

According to The Times of India, the incident occurred around 9 am, near Rangapani, close to the New Jalpaiguri station. The Kanchanjungha Express was en route from Agartala to Sealdah when the accident happened.

The locomotive of the goods train struck the express train from behind. The collision resulted in the derailment of at least two rear compartments of the Kanchanjungha Express, the report adds.

Authorities have initiated rescue operations. Disaster response teams are providing medical assistance and support to the affected passengers.
