Haley beats Trump in Washington DC for first primary victory

YEREVAN, MARCH 4, ARMENPRESS. Presidential contender Nikki Haley has defeated former president Donald Trump in the Republican primary in Washington DC, Reuters reports.

Haley, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, the only remaining challenger to Trumpin the race, won 62.9% of the vote, versus 33.2% captured by the former president.

Haley was the first woman to win a Republican primary in U.S. history, her campaign said.

This is also her first victory over the former president in the 2024 campaign to become the Republican presidential candidate. Trump won the first eight nominating contests by significant margins before losing to Haley in America's capital city.

Trump however has a huge lead over Haley and is likely to face President Joe Biden in the November election.
