“This is war,” Nagorno-Karabakh calls on Russia to step in and stop Azeri attack

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 19, ARMENPRESS. Nagorno-Karabakh presidential advisor Davit Babayan expects Russia to take action in response to the ongoing military aggression by Azerbaijan.

“This is war, they are shooting. Our troops are responding, we can’t idly just sit there. Now the whole international community, first of all Russia, should thwart and resolve this issue politically. This has crossed the limits,” Babayan told Channel 5 amid an intense Azeri bombardment targeting Stepanakert city and other towns.

“We must clearly understand what state we are dealing with,” he said referring to Azerbaijan, noting that the Azeri attack was no surprise because nothing else can be expected from Baku. “In person of Azerbaijan, it is a country where Armenophobia is a state religion. We couldn’t expect anything else from them. Could we have prevented it? No, because they now have the sense of impunity. Russia should first of all take steps,” Babayan said.

He said that Russia can and must take all actions.
