YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 15, ARMENPRESS. Participation in debates should be a mandatory requirement for candidates running for office in both parliamentary and mayoral elections, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said.
PM Pashinyan, the Chairman of the Board of the ruling Civil Contract Party, on Friday participated in a rally in support of the party and its mayoral candidate Tigran Avinyan in the upcoming City Council elections.
“Today, our teammate, the Vice Mayor of Yerevan, said a highly important and accurate thing. Debates in both parliamentary and city elections should be made mandatory, and candidates refusing to take part in the debates should have their registration revoked. I don’t know what studies the lawyers will conduct, but politically this could be a very accurate reaction. But I think the citizens of Yerevan, with their vote, should deprive those who ignore the debate, their political competitors and the voters, of their registration as candidate for Mayor. You have that chance,” Pashinyan told supporters outside City Hall.
