Omicron variant Acrux detected in Armenia

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 13, ARMENPRESS. The Acrux (XBB.2.3) subvariant of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 was recently detected in Armenia, the healthcare ministry announced Wednesday.

71 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the past 7 days, compared to the 42 new cases confirmed in the previous week.

Amid rising numbers of new cases worldwide, the World Health Organization has called on countries to increase control, testing, and sequencing to assess the risk of the circulating new variants.

The Healthcare Ministry called on citizens to get vaccinated against the seasonal flu and COVID-19.

Suspected COVID-19 cases are being tested in all healthcare facilities.
