Lachin Corridor must be opened immediately, while the issue of other roads is up to Nagorno-Karabakh to decide - MP

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 13, ARMENPRESS. Armenian Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Sargis Khandanyan has said that the opening of the Lachin Corridor would be extremely important in terms of improving the humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and protecting the security of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh.

“The Lachin Corridor must be opened immediately, but I wouldn’t want to give comments on the other roads, because that’s up to the authorities and the people of Nagorno-Karabakh to decide. I don’t think Armenia should interfere here,” Khandanyan said when asked on the reports that the Aghdam route would be opened parallel with the Lachin Corridor.

On September 12, Nagorno-Karabakh allowed a Russian aid truck to deliver humanitarian supplies to Stepanakert through the Aghdam-Askeran road under the condition that the Lachin Corridor will also be opened. Asked to give updates on the issue, and whether or not negotiations are taking place on the opening of the Lachin Corridor, MP Khandanyan said he doesn’t have any information in this regard.

“We are receiving information from Artsakh about the continuing humanitarian crisis, the deteriorating humanitarian situation, and we are conveying this information to our international partners. Regarding whether or not there are contacts and negotiations, personally I don’t have such information,” Khandanyan said.
