Parliament greenlights prosecution of MP Armen Charchyan

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 9, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian parliament approved the General-Prosecutor’s motion asking permission to prosecute Member of Parliament from the Hayastan faction Armen Charchyan.
68 of the 107 MPs participated in the closed voting. 67 voted in favor of stripping Charchyan off his immunity from prosecution. 1 ballot was found to be invalid.
Prosecutor-General Anna Vardapetyan asked Parliament to allow investigators bring criminal charges against opposition Member of Parliament Armen Charchyan (Hayastan faction).
Charchyan is suspected of signing a fake forensic examination report in 2017 as a member of a forensic medical commission in a criminal investigation.
Article 97 of the Constitution requires law enforcement authorities to obtain the consent of Parliament in order to prosecute a legislator.
Earlier on February 8, parliament also stripped MP Seyran Ohanyan of immunity in an unrelated case.
